The IELTS exam is not a test of English knowledge but of English skills. Your skills in listening, reading, writing, and speaking are assessed to be sure you can live and work in the English-speaking clime you are applying to.
In preparing for this exam, some people think they need to go to night classes or sit for long hours to study. Many a time, this is not so and doesn’t work. Because it is a skill that is tested, you have got to do more practice than conventional studying of your class notes.
 Listening Module
You can choose to install a text-reading app on your phone and voice-read books early in the morning while doing house chores, driving, bathing, or using the toilet. You can do something to master IELTS in every ordinary thing you do. The more you listen to this native accent, the more your auditory faculty gets accustomed to the frequency of native speakers. And this positions you for excellence on the test day.
In addition, you can dedicate time to watching CNN or BBC news and any other YouTube videos made by native speakers. All of these shouldn’t substitute practising normal listening tests. So, create time to practice one listening test daily, probably during your break time at work.
Speaking Module
Use everyone around you to practice the speaking module. Ensure you make English your major language of communication in all you do before the exam. Also, get literature or God books to read in your leisure time; all this will help you to acquire new vocabulary and new idioms that will assist. You will also master grammar use and learn to avoid mistakes in your speech. When anyone asks you a question, use the opportunity to practice an IELTS speaking interview.
Reading Module
Reading is the most tactical of the IELTS modules. One way to prepare for this is to engage yourself in IQ-tasking activities. Read books, challenging ones for that matter; play puzzles; play scrabble; read articles from the BBC news app and other technical or academic materials. Also, I fell in love with words. Try to get a book to read and try to develop reading fast. You will need skimming and scanning skills on the test day. So, I began to work on reading very quickly and smartly. Begin to see yourself as a smart person and think like a smart person too. Feed your mind on this brilliant podcast and open the channel of your mind to boundless possibilities. When you are fearless, you become limitless.
Writing Module
Writing module is the least performed module in IELTS because writing is an art. Most people don’t write at all. So it is difficult to master the whole work of writing in a few weeks of preparing for IELTS.
To overcome this challenge, begin to keep a daily diary. Try to write something about your day every night before sleeping. Begin to read books too. Read up and revise the rules of concord and learn the use of punctuation in writing. Also, listen to interesting podcasts as this will help you to generate ideas when writing on any topic of life. You need to be versatile to pass IELTS reading and writing at the band 7 level.
